We love the sun, it’s a life necessity because without it the planet would get extremely cold and all living organisms would die. But just as much as humans and plants need the sun to live, the sun can also cause some serious damage to our health such as early signs of aging, sun spots, cancer (which accounts for 50% of all cancers in the U.S.), eye damage and more. Here are some important facts about the sun (and tanning) that you should be aware before you take another step outside.
Dark under eye circles? You may be seeing those bad boys due to allergies, as nasal congestion can widen the blood vessels that drain from the area around your eyes, which causes them to darken. Sleep deprivation is usually the most common culprit, but oversleeping can also cause those babies to go to the dark side. And sometimes it’s just good old genetics that you drew the short straw on! I have dark circles under my eyes from lack of sleep, and I know how hard it can be cover them up—which is why I have always been so picky about my concealer!
Wearing foundation on top of sun block and moisturizer can get quite thick and heavy, and at times the foundation doesn’t go on seamlessly on top of all the other creams and lotions. That’s why I turn to the Dew Skin Tinted Moistruizer with SPF 20. This magic in a tube offers the best light coverage for everyday wear that not only moisturizes and protects, but also illuminates my skin. It provides lightweight, sheer hydration that evens skin tone while protecting the skin from sun damage, thanks to the added SPF 20.

Just like I love to work out, I love to meditate too. I try to do it daily, and have found it to be life changing. Meditation has so many benefits—physical and mental. It’s a new development in my life, allowing me to be more patient, less stressed, more focused and free (spiritually speaking). It’s like going to the spa but for your mind. If you’re looking for a way to help gain more inner energy, lower your blood pressure, release negative energy and stress, then meditation may be your source for a healthier you. Working out is a whole commitment on it’s own, but a very fun and rewarding one! I love working out, the thrill it gives me, the natural endorphins that are released during and after, the energy, and of course, all of the health benefits. Over the past six months, I have been focusing on variety with my fitness routine, which is important if you’re looking to burn more calories, lose weight, and strengthen your muscles. “When you do the same activity all the time, your body gets used it and becomes very efficient. Eventually, that adaptation will mean that you burn fewer calories even when you’re doing the same amount of exercise,” says Dr. Arnold Lee, MD, a physician at One Medical. That’s not all, mixing your workout routine also has a lot of other benefits, which is what I’ll be covering today.
Just like your skin, your hair needs some loving too. My pick of the week is the Daily Conditioner and Daily Shampoo from Beautycounter. I love using the two together, and the fact that it doesn’t strip my hair of its color means that I can use it more than just once a week. The shampoo and conditioner leave my hair in the perfect condition to be styled, and doesn’t weigh it down at all. (Sometimes I even feel like I’m in the commercial where the woman is walking down the street with hair that’s full of volume and bounce…you know what I’m talking about 😉 .)
Mascara is a beautiful invention. I love the way it completes any makeup look, and can even be worn on its own day or night. It’s a must have for most women. There are so many different types out there, and new ones are being produced on a regular basis. Each one promising volume, added length, growth enhancers and so much more. But what I find a bit frustrating with most of the commercial mascaras out there is how they tend to clump, flake, smudge and sometimes, irritate my eyes (and no, I’m not sensitive to many products). It wasn’t until I tried the Lengthening Mascara from Beautycounter that I realised I found a product I can’t be without. I’ve tried and tested handfuls of mascaras out there, but none of them compared to this one.
Looking for glowing skin this summer (and even all year round)? Then I have your ultimate skin care summer combo! The Glow Sugar Scrub, Hydrate Body Lotion and the Lustro Shimmer Oil from Beautycounter will keep your skin looking amazing. They also make an easy at-home pedicure! Here’s what I love about these three.
We’re so busy these days that sometimes sleeping for seven to eight hours a day is something only a few can enjoy or remember! We’re running around taking our kids to school or practice, we’re shopping and running errands, and working to help support ourselves and our family. All that—combined with pollution, heredity, dust and lack of sleep—can create those darker tones and puffiness under your eyes. Which for me, is probably the area that really used to stress out my morning routine. My eye area was THAT area that I would do anything to change! To be a bit more specific, our eyes get puffy and dark because of gravity, which draws fluid to pool in areas where skin is thin. Not getting enough zzz’s will form dark circles, and lying down is what causes them to get puffy. But don’t worry, there is a product that can reduce the bulges and dark circles around your eyes, plus it helps diminish the appearance of fine lines. One application and you’ll be ready to conquer the day! It is my “go-to”…my “must never be without!”
